Local Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Police then discovered numerous other marked cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis indicate the fluid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative stated the attack left him speechless and had to be addressed promptly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a gunman focusing on people of migrant background in 2020.
